Add-on Full day Township and Robben Island tour : USD 150 Per person
Join us for a unique experience travelling through the three South Africa – The birth, where it all started, Apartheid South Africa, and the New South Africa. Departing from Cape Town city centre, the first stop is in the Malay Quarter (Bo Kaap). Here we discuss the arrival of an expedition of Dutch sailors in 1652 that proved to be a monumental turning point in the history of South Africa. Taking a short walk along the romantic cobblestone streets between the brightly colored homes, your tour guide explains how the framework for racial segregation was established. Passing some of Cape Town’s landmarks, a short drive brings us to District 6 where we drive through the now decaying ruins of what was once a flourishing mixed-race community where 60,000 people lived and worked but was demolished to be reserved exclusively for white people. The tour continues to Langa, the oldest Black African Township in Cape Town. Along the way, we elaborate on the restrictive legislation introduced by the Apartheid regime to enforce racial segregation. On arrival in Langa, we have a photo stop at the site that commemorates the student uprising of 1976; and discuss the Pass Laws and the barracks built for African migrant workers. If conducted on a Sunday morning, the tour includes a short visit to one of the local churches. Here guests are immersed in the charisma and vibrancy of how religion is practiced in the townships. Join an afternoon ferry trip to Robben Island (weather permitting & subject to seat availability and ferry schedule), where former president Nelson Mandela was incarcerated.
Add-on Winelands Tour including Lunch: USD 125 Per person

We will pass the Company Gardens and the Malay Quarter [also known as the BoKaap] which means "Above Cape" because of its location up against the slopes of Table Mountain. In the early 18th century, thousands of slaves from Java, Ceylon, and other Far Eastern regions were brought to Cape Town. After slavery was abolished, their descendants, known as the Cape Malays, settled here. PLANNING A TRIP TO KENYA, ZAMBIA, AND SOUTH AFRICA ?
Visa requirements:
To travel to Kenya, U.S. and Canadian citizens must have a valid passport that remains valid for at least six months after their return date. It’s also recommended to have at least two blank pages available for entry stamps. A visa is required and must be obtained in advance through Kenya’s Electronic Travel Authorization portal at etakenya.go.ke/en. Be sure to follow our step-by-step visa application guide before your departure.
To enter South Africa—and Zimbabwe if you're joining the tour extension—U.S. and Canadian citizens must hold a valid passport that remains valid for at least six months beyond the date of return. We recommend having at least three blank pages in your passport for entry stamps.
No visa is required for U.S. and Canadian travelers entering South Africa. However, a visa is required for entry into Zimbabwe. U.S. citizens can obtain a visa upon arrival at the airport for $30 USD, payable in cash with exact change. Canadian citizens can obtain a single-entry visa either on arrival or through an e-visa service for $75 USD per person.
If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, please check with the consulate of each country you plan to visit to confirm your individual entry requirements.
Safety precautions: Kenya, South Africa and Zimbabwe are generally safe for tourists, but it's always a good idea to be cautious and aware of your surroundings. Keep valuables out of sight and avoid walking alone at night.
Health concerns: Check with your doctor or a travel health clinic to see what vaccinations are recommended for your trip. Malaria is a concern in some areas of South Africa and Zimbabwe, so take appropriate precautions. In terms of drinking water, tap water is generally safe to drink in major cities and tourist areas. However, it is recommended to check with the locals or hotel staff about the quality of tap water in smaller towns or rural areas. If you prefer, bottled water is widely available for purchase in South Africa. It is also recommended to avoid drinking water from streams, rivers, or lakes as it may contain harmful bacteria.
Clothing and Packing: We suggest packing loose, layered clothing to adapt to changing temperatures. Quick-dry fabrics are ideal for hot days, while a warm layer is useful for cool mornings and evenings.
For game drives, wear neutral-colored clothing—bright colors can startle wildlife, and blue or black may attract tsetse flies. Comfortable closed-toe shoes, such as sneakers or lightweight hiking boots, are best for daytime walking.
Many hotels have pools, so don’t forget a swimsuit. Be sure to pack sunscreen, sunglasses, and a wide-brimmed hat to guard against the sun. Depending on your travel season, a lightweight rain jacket may come in handy due to occasional showers.
Essential extras include mosquito repellent, binoculars, a flashlight, and a small bottle of hand sanitizer for times when facilities may be limited.
Please note: Kenya has a strict ban on plastic bags. It’s illegal to use, sell, or carry them, and violations may result in steep fines or imprisonment. Use reusable cloth bags for shopping and avoid bringing any plastic bags, including resealable ones.
Since transfers between parks can be long and over rough terrain, consider bringing a small travel pillow for added comfort.
We also recommend a universal power adapter and a voltage converter if you're bringing electronics like hairdryers that don’t have built-in converters. Lastly, carry your medical insurance card in your hand luggage in case of emergencies.
Climate and seasons: Kenya enjoys a diverse climate due to its varied geography, but you can generally expect warm temperatures. Coastal areas are hot and humid, while the highlands are cooler.
South Africa has a generally mild climate, but temperatures can vary greatly depending on the region and time of year. Victoria Falls has a tropical climate with high humidity and rainfall. Be sure to check the weather forecast for your destination and pack accordingly.
Currency: The Currency in Kenya is Kenyan Shilling, South Africa's currency is the rand, while Zimbabwe uses the US dollar. Be sure to have enough local currency on hand for your trip, and consider bringing a credit card for a larger-purchases. We recommend that you carry small amounts of U.S. dollars (only crisp bills printed in 2004 or later, $1, $5, $10 bills are ideal).
Driving: South Africa has left-hand traffic, and it is recommended to have an international driving permit if you plan on renting a car.
Electricity: The voltage in South Africa is 220-240V and the power outlets are Type M, which have three round pins. It is recommended to bring a universal adapter if you plan on using electronic devices.
Language: English is widely spoken in Kenya, South Africa and Zimbabwe, but there are many other official languages and dialects. It's always a good idea to learn a few key phrases in the local language.
Time Zone: Kenya (and Tanzania on the tour extension) is 3 hours ahead of Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) and 8 hours ahead of U.S. Eastern Standard Time (ET). South Africa has only one time zone, which is South African Standard Time (SAST). SAST is 2 hours ahead of Coordinated Universal Time (UTC+2), and it does not observe daylight saving time.
Cuisine: Kenyan cuisine is a flavorful mix of indigenous ingredients, regional traditions, and influences from Indian, Arab, and European cultures. South Africa has a diverse food culture that reflects its multicultural society. Traditional South African dishes include braai (barbecue), biltong (dried meat), boerewors (sausage), bobotie (spiced minced meat), and bredie (stew). In addition to traditional dishes, South Africa also has a wide range of international cuisine options, including Indian, Italian, Chinese, and more.
