Overnight in Dublin
After a hearty full Irish breakfast, we will head towards Galway City, traveling west through Ballinasloe and Athlone, located in the heart of Ireland.
Our first stop will be Clonmacnoise, a medieval monastery situated on the banks of the River Shannon. Founded by St. Ciaran in the 6th century, Clonmacnoise was a key center of medieval Ireland, connecting various parts of the island. Despite being repeatedly raided by Vikings, the site thrived for over 600 years.
We will then continue our journey towards Galway City, famously known as the "City of the Tribes." Upon arrival, you’ll enjoy a panoramic tour of this historic city, including a visit to Eyre Square. You’ll have time to explore the Salthill Promenade, a designated Wild Atlantic Way discovery point, or take a stroll down Shop Street to Galway’s Latin Quarter. Here, you'll find Lynch’s Castle, the city’s grandest 16th-century townhouse. End your day with a leisurely walk along Quay Street, lined with lively pubs and street performers.
Overnight in Galway
Today, you will explore the rugged beauty of Connemara, passing through the villages of Moycullen, Oughterard, Maam Cross, and Recess. You'll then travel through the stunning Inagh Valley, with the 12 Bens of Connemara on your left and the Maumturks Mountains on your right, as you head towards Kylemore.
Your first stop will be Kylemore Abbey, a historic building located at the base of Duchruach Mountain, on the northern shore of Lough Pollacappul, nestled in the heart of the Connemara Mountains. The abbey is considered one of Ireland’s most picturesque and romantic landmarks.
Next, you'll travel along the shores of Killary Fjord, Ireland's only fjord and a designated Wild Atlantic Way signature discovery point, located on the border between Mayo and Galway. Afterward, you will cross into Mayo and visit the village of Cong, famously known as the filming location for The Quiet Man, where you'll have a short break.
Finally, you’ll return to Galway City via the scenic shores of Lough Corrib, the largest lake in the Republic of Ireland, renowned for being one of the best fishing lakes in Europe.
Overnight in Galway
This morning, we’ll set off early along the Atlantic coastline of County Clare, heading towards Killarney Town. Your journey today will take you past the scenic Galway Bay, the historic Dunguaire Castle, and the charming fishing village of Kinvarra.
You’ll also visit The Burren, a vast limestone plateau, aptly named as "Burren" means "rocky land" in Gaelic. In the 1640s, Cromwell’s surveyor described it as "a savage land, yielding neither water enough to drown a man, nor tree to hang him, nor soil enough to bury."
On the coast, you’ll stand atop the Cliffs of Moher, towering 702 feet (214 meters) above the Atlantic Ocean. This dramatic stretch of cliffs, extending for 9 miles (14 km), is a signature discovery point along the Wild Atlantic Way, offering breathtaking views of the vast ocean.
Further south in County Limerick, take a leisurely stroll down the main street of Adare, a picturesque village known for its thatched cottages, before continuing on to Killarney Town.
Overnight in Kerry
After breakfast this morning, you'll embark on the renowned Ring of Kerry, also known as the Iveragh Peninsula. Take a traditional horse-drawn jaunting car through Killarney National Park to scenic Ross Castle, set on the shores of Lough Leane. A walled city with Viking origins, Waterford retains much of its medieval charm, alongside elegant 18th-century buildings from its expansion. Similar to Kilkenny, Waterford has a medieval feel with narrow alleyways branching off the main streets. Reginald’s Tower stands as a symbol of the city's Viking heritage, and the surrounding area is especially picturesque. Georgian architecture is prominent, with fine houses and commercial buildings around The Mall, George’s Street, and O’Connell Street. Notable sights include the French Church and Christchurch Cathedral. Today, Waterford is known as a thriving port and commercial hub.
Later, visit the Waterford Crystal Visitor Centre, which relocated in 2010 to a stunning new location in the heart of the city. A highlight of your visit is the factory tour, offering a close-up look at the centuries-old craft of Waterford Crystal making. Experience the heat of the furnace and witness the expertise of the craftsmen. The tour covers traditional production areas such as wooden mould making, crystal blowing, furnace work, crystal cutting, and quality inspection. After the tour, you can browse the world’s largest collection of Waterford Crystal at the centre’s lavish retail store. The centre also features an exhibition, crystal installations, a coffee shop, and a worldwide shipping service.

Planning a trip to Ireland?
Visa requirements: To enter Ireland and the United Kingdom, U.S. and Canadian citizens must have a valid passport that is valid for at least six months beyond their reentry date. It is also recommended to have at least one blank page in your passport for entry stamps. U.S. and Canadian citizens do not need a visa to enter the Republic of Ireland. However, starting January 8, 2025, U.S. and Canadian passport holders will need to obtain an individual visa through the UK’s Electronic Travel Authority (ETA) website to enter the United Kingdom. If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, please check with your destination country’s consulate for specific entry requirements.
Language: English is the primary language spoken, but Irish (Gaelic) is also an official language. You’ll often see signs and place names in both languages.
Currency: Ireland uses the Euro (€) in the Republic of Ireland, while Northern Ireland uses the British Pound (£). Make sure to carry some local currency, although credit and debit cards are widely accepted.
You’re likely to get better exchange rates abroad, but it’s a good idea to order some local currency from your bank to have on hand when you arrive. We recommend bringing debit or bank cards, as well as credit cards, which can be used to withdraw cash from local ATMs as needed. Most debit/credit cards are accepted at ATMs connected to international networks like Cirrus and Plus, but be sure to check with your bank regarding any withdrawal fees.
Weather: Ireland’s weather can be unpredictable, with frequent rain showers and mild temperatures. Pack layers and an umbrella to stay comfortable.
Electrical Outlets: Ireland uses the standard UK 3-pin plug (Type G), with a voltage of 230V and a frequency of 50Hz. Bring a plug adapter if your devices use a different plug type.
Time Zone: Ireland is on Greenwich Mean Time (GMT) during winter and Irish Standard Time (IST) in the summer, which is GMT +1. It’s 5 hours ahead of Eastern Time (ET). When it’s noon in New York, it’s 5pm in Ireland
Tipping: Tipping is customary in Ireland, but not obligatory. In restaurants, a 10-15% tip is appreciated if service is good. It’s also common to tip taxi drivers and hotel staff.
Cultural Etiquette: The Irish are known for their friendly and welcoming nature. Be respectful of local customs, and don’t forget to enjoy the lively pubs and traditional Irish music.
Cuisine: Traditional dishes include Irish Stew (lamb or beef with vegetables), Fish and Chips, Boxty (potato pancake), and a hearty Full Irish Breakfast. Potatoes are a staple, featured in many meals like Colcannon (mashed potatoes with cabbage). Dairy products, especially Irish butter, are renowned for their rich flavor.
Ireland’s coastal location means fresh seafood like oysters, mussels, salmon, and cod are popular. Soda bread and brown bread accompany many meals, while hearty soups like cabbage and leek soup are common. Desserts like Irish Coffee Cake and Apple Tart are delicious, and Baileys Irish Cream often appears in sweets.
Guinness and Irish whiskey are famous, with pubs serving hearty meals like Cottage Pie and Seafood Chowder. Ireland is increasingly accommodating vegetarian and vegan diets with plant-based options like curries and salads.
