Overnight in Banff

Today marks a tour highlight as we journey north into the heart of the Canadian Rockies, departing from Banff and heading towards Lake Louise. This globally acclaimed lake, named after Queen Victoria’s daughter, is renowned as one of the most picturesque in the world. The mesmerizing sight of its turquoise waters, embraced by towering mountains and the grand Victoria Glacier, is truly captivating. Take some time to marvel at the world-renowned Fairmont Chateau Lake Louise, perfectly positioned at the lake's foot, itself a remarkable highlight of our tour.

Continuing our northern route along the Icefields Parkway, get ready to be immersed in awe-inspiring scenery. Be amazed by the crystal blue-green lakes, refreshing mountain streams, dense forests, and snow-capped peaks dominating the landscape. Our next destination is the renowned Athabasca Glacier, one of six primary glaciers fed by the Columbia Icefields. Here, we board the ‘Snowcoach,’ an all-terrain ice explorer vehicle, to venture onto the Athabasca Glacier itself. At an impressive altitude of 2,700 meters, our knowledgeable guide will share insights about glaciers and the environment, providing you with the incredible opportunity to walk on the ice.

Following this extraordinary experience, we head to the nearby Glacier Skywalk, where a 1-kilometer walkway leads to a platform with a glass floor, offering an extraordinary perspective of a 918-foot drop. Marvel at the gigantic glaciers above you and admire the breathtaking views of the Sunwapta Valley below.

Afterward, our journey continues to Jasper, which you'll be calling home for the next two nights.. Upon arrival in Jasper, check in and relax.

Overnight in Jasper

Jasper, the captivating mountain resort, unfolds before you with breathtaking views of majestic mountains and the alluring Lac Beauvert. Prepare yourself for an unforgettable stay at this exceptional retreat. In the early 1800s, the first European arrivals in Jasper sought a fur trading route over the Continental Divide. Recognizing its significance, the federal government officially designated it as a national park in 1907. Jasper National Park offers an even more expansive display of majestic peaks, lush valleys, serene lakes, and awe-inspiring icefields and glaciers.

Today marks the commencement of a comprehensive full-day sightseeing tour, commencing with the exploration of Maligne Canyon. Our journey then progresses to Maligne Lake, the largest lake in the Canadian Rockies, renowned by photographers worldwide. Weather permitting, an opportunity arises for a cruise to Spirit Island, a small gem embellishing the lake. Along the way, you'll encounter the intriguing Medicine Lake, famous for its unique "disappearing" phenomenon. The tour proceeds to Maligne Lake, where a captivating 90-minute interpretative boat cruise awaits, guiding you to the renowned Spirit Island. Keep your camera ready, as this location unfolds a truly picturesque setting worthy of a postcard.

After the enchanting boat cruise, take a moment to unwind and soak in the scenic beauty or treat yourself to a delightful experience at the Lake Chalet. Alternatively, for those seeking a different perspective, a 75-minute guided walk along the shoreline trail of Maligne Lake is available as a charming alternative to the boat cruise. Whether gliding over the waters or exploring the shoreline on foot, this tour ensures a remarkable encounter with the natural marvels of Jasper National Park, leaving you with enduring memories of this extraordinary journey.

Upon our return to the hotel nestled in the serene surroundings, the rest of the afternoon and evening is yours to enjoy at leisure. Consider savoring a cocktail at the hotel bar, sharing the highlights of the day with fellow travelers.

PLANNING A TRIP TO CANADA ?

Entry Requirement: To enter Canada (or the U.S. on the tour extension), it is essential for both U.S. and Canadian citizens to hold a valid passport with an expiration date extending at least six months beyond the reentry date. Non-U.S. or Canadian citizens should contact the consulate of their destination country to ascertain specific entry requirements. U.S. citizens are required to have valid government-issued identification for air travel within the United States. Starting May 7, 2025, state-issued IDs or driver's licenses for air travel must meet Real ID requirements. Real ID-compliant versions will display a yellow or black star, a white star inside a yellow or black circle, or a white star inside a bear in the top right-hand corner. Further information can be found at dhs.gov. Similarly, Canadian citizens must have valid government-issued identification for air travel within Canada.

Baggage: It's crucial to note that each traveler is limited to one checked bag and one carry-on bag due to limited storage space on motor coaches and other modes of transportation, including train connections or flights, that are part of the tour. For specific information regarding baggage size and weight restrictions, including details about on-tour flights and round-trip flights to and from the tour, kindly reach out to your airline(s) directly. Please be aware that the baggage limits for the included on-tour flights may be more stringent. Additionally, some airlines may impose extra charges if you opt to check baggage or exceed size and weight limitations. It is your responsibility to cover any baggage fees incurred on all flights. To facilitate smooth travel, it is advisable to label your baggage and keep valuable items, medication, and important documents in your carry-on bag.

Packing Tips: Packing tip: It's recommended to pack lightweight and loose-fitting clothing that can be layered easily to accommodate fluctuating temperatures. Remember to include a light jacket or rainwear for unpredictable weather conditions. For spring and fall departures, enhance your comfort during outdoor sightseeing by bringing along a warm coat, hat, and gloves. Opt for materials other than cotton whenever feasible, as it is not the most effective insulator. When it comes to sightseeing, a sturdy pair of walking shoes or sneakers is advisable. If you intend to dine at upscale restaurants or attend special performances, consider packing dressier attire for such occasions.

Health: Before your departure, it's crucial to consult with your doctor or healthcare provider at least 60 days in advance to stay abreast of the latest updates and entry requirements. Additional information can also be found on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention website at cdc.gov. Exercise caution during the summer months regarding sun exposure and heat, taking necessary precautions to safeguard yourself. If you rely on daily medication, ensure you have an ample supply for the entire duration of the tour, considering potential delays. For those with dietary restrictions or food allergies, please inform Voyages Hub at least 30 days before departure by updating your traveler information in your account. If you need to make updates closer to your departure date, kindly contact our Customer Experience Team..

Cuisine: The culinary landscape in Canada exhibits numerous resemblances to British cuisine, and Americans will recognize several familiar elements as well. While in Canada, it's recommended to explore local favorites like butter tarts, poutine, and dishes infused with maple syrup.

Health and Insurance: Consider acquiring travel insurance to safeguard against unforeseen medical expenses. Ensure you obtain any essential vaccinations as advised by your healthcare provider.

Currency: The official currency in Canada is the Canadian Dollar (CAD). It's recommended to carry some cash, but credit cards are widely acknowledged.

Language: Canada recognizes two official languages, namely English and French. While English is the primary language spoken in most areas, French predominates in Quebec and some parts of other provinces.

Electrical Outlets: Canada operates on a standard voltage of 120V, and the plugs commonly used are of type A and B. If your devices require a different voltage or plug type, it is advisable to bring suitable adapters.

Wifi: While Wi-Fi is typically provided by most hotels, there could be associated fees in specific instances. Motor coaches, however, do not have Wi-Fi availability. If you need information regarding roaming charges, please contact your mobile service provider.

Time Zones: Canada spans various time zones due to its extensive geographical size. The time zones in Canada include:

  1. Pacific Standard Time (PST) - UTC-8:00 (observed in parts of British Columbia)
  2. Mountain Standard Time (MST) - UTC-7:00 (observed in Alberta)
  3. Central Standard Time (CST) - UTC-6:00 (observed in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, part of Ontario)
  4. Eastern Standard Time (EST) - UTC-5:00 (observed in most of Ontario, Quebec, and parts of Nunavut)
  5. Atlantic Standard Time (AST) - UTC-4:00 (observed in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, Prince Edward Island, and parts of Labrador)
  6. Newfoundland Standard Time (NST) - UTC-3:30 (observed in Newfoundland and Labrador)

It's important to note that some regions in Canada observe daylight saving time, where clocks are adjusted forward by one hour in the spring and set back by one hour in the fall. The application of daylight saving time can vary by province and territory.

Tipping and Gratuity: After your tour, it is customary to give a gratuity to your Tour Director and driver in the local currency. When providing tips, please take into account the prevailing exchange rates. We recommend tipping your Tour Director an equivalent of USD 8 to USD 10 per person per day and your driver an equivalent of USD 3 per person per day. If you had local guides during the tour, it is also suggested to give them an amount equal to USD 2 per person. Please be aware that gratuities can only be settled in cash.
