Itinerary

Prepare yourself! Today you depart on your exciting journey to Colombia, a country rich in culture, history, and breathtaking natural beauty.

Your adventure begins as you fly to Medellin, the vibrant “City of Eternal Spring.”

Bienvenidos a Colombia! Upon arrival at Jose Maria Córdova International Airport, you will be warmly greeted and transferred to your hotel. Medellin, once infamous for its turbulent past, has transformed into one of Latin America’s most innovative and dynamic cities, known for its pleasant climate, friendly locals, and modern infrastructure.

After check-in (standard check-in time is 3:00 PM), the remainder of the day is free for you to relax after your journey or take a first independent stroll around the city. You may explore nearby cafes, restaurants, or simply enjoy the city’s lively atmosphere.

Overnight in Medellin

After breakfast, embark on a fascinating half-day city tour that tells the remarkable story of Medellin’s transformation.

Just over two decades ago, Medellin was considered one of the most dangerous cities in the world, largely due to the reign of drug lord Pablo Escobar and the Medellin cartel. Since the early 2000s, however, visionary leadership, investments in education, and innovative infrastructure projects have reshaped the city into a global model of urban renewal.

During this approximately 4-hour guided tour, you will explore both the historical and modern sides of the “City of Eternal Spring.” Ride the famous Metro and Metro Cable system, a symbol of social innovation that connects hillside communities to the city center. Visit iconic landmarks such as Plaza Botero, home to Fernando Botero’s famous sculptures, and Plaza de las Luces, a striking urban space filled with illuminated columns.

Continue to the Comuna 13 neighborhood, once one of the most dangerous areas in the city and now a powerful symbol of transformation. Ride its unique outdoor escalators and learn firsthand how the city’s past has shaped its people and their hopeful outlook for the future.

The rest of the evening is free at leisure to enjoy Medellin at your own pace.

Overnight in Medellin

After breakfast, depart for an immersive full-day Colombian coffee experience.

No visit to Colombia is complete without exploring its world-famous coffee culture. Today, you’ll visit a traditional coffee finca run by Don Octavio Acevedo and his family. On this intimate plantation of less than three hectares, you’ll witness the entire coffee-making process—from plant to cup.

Stroll through lush coffee fields while learning about cultivation, harvesting, and bean selection. Enjoy a traditional countryside lunch before continuing with the roasting process. The highlight of the day comes as you prepare and savor a freshly brewed cup of highland Colombian coffee, rich in aroma and flavor. Return to Medellin in the afternoon.

Overnight in Medellin

After breakfast, check out and transfer to Medellin Airport for your flight to San Andres, a Caribbean paradise known for its turquoise waters and relaxed island vibe.

Upon arrival, you will be met and transferred to your hotel. The remainder of the day is free to relax, unwind, and enjoy the island’s tropical atmosphere.

Overnight in San Andres

Today, enjoy a full-day beach excursion to the nearby cays of Johnny Cay and Acuario.

The tour begins with visits to Rose Cay and Haines Cay (Aquarium), where you can admire crystal-clear waters and vibrant marine life. Continue to Johnny Cay Natural Park, famous for its white sandy beaches, palm trees, and Caribbean breeze. Relax, swim, or simply soak up the beauty of the “Sea of Seven Colors.”

This shared excursion lasts approximately 6 hours and includes lunch, boat transportation, eco tax, a mini-fridge with soft drinks, and English-speaking assistance. The itinerary may vary depending on weather conditions.

The evening is free at leisure.

Today is yours to enjoy San Andres at your own pace.

Relax on the beach, explore the island, or opt for optional activities such as snorkeling or water sports. Take in the laid-back Caribbean lifestyle and enjoy the island’s natural beauty.

Overnight in Cartagena

This morning, depart at 08:30 AM from the Muelle de la Bodeguita by speedboat toward the Rosario Islands.

Your destination is Isla Grande, home to the idyllic Isla San Pedro de Majagua. Upon arrival, you’ll be welcomed with a refreshing fruit cocktail. Spend the day relaxing on white sandy beaches, swimming in clear Caribbean waters, or enjoying optional island activities such as snorkeling (not included).

A typical island lunch featuring fish, coconut rice, and dessert is included. In the afternoon, return by boat to Cartagena. This is a shared tour with bilingual guide assistance.

Planning a trip to Colombia?

Visa Requirements: This tour covers travel within Colombia. U.S. and Canadian citizens need a valid passport with at least six months’ validity beyond the return date to enter Colombia. It is recommended to have at least two blank passport pages for entry stamps.

Currently, no visa is required for U.S. or Canadian passport holders for tourist stays of up to 90 days in Colombia. Upon arrival, travelers may be granted an entry stamp valid for 90 days, which can be extended once while in the country.

We recommend checking entry requirements at least two months before departure, as immigration regulations may change without prior notice.

Please be aware that visa and entry requirements can change. For the most up-to-date and accurate information, visit the U.S. Department of State, the Government of Canada travel website, or contact the Colombian consulate or embassy.

If you are not a U.S. or Canadian citizen, please check with the Colombian consulate for specific entry requirements based on your nationality.

Culture and Customs: Colombia is known for its warm hospitality, strong family values, and vibrant culture. Colombians take pride in their music, dance, food, and regional traditions. Greetings are friendly and often include a handshake or light cheek kiss in social settings. Respect for elders and polite manners are highly valued.

Weather: Colombia’s climate varies by region rather than by season due to its equatorial location. Medellín enjoys spring-like temperatures year-round, San Andrés has a warm tropical climate, and Cartagena is hot and humid most of the year. Light rain is possible at any time, especially in the afternoons, so packing light rainwear is recommended.

Language: Spanish is the official language of Colombia. English is spoken in major tourist areas and hotels, but it is less common outside these zones. Learning a few basic Spanish phrases can be very helpful and is always appreciated by locals.

Currency: The official currency of Colombia is the Colombian Peso (COP). Credit cards are widely accepted in hotels, restaurants, and shops in major cities. However, it is advisable to carry some cash for smaller purchases, local markets, or taxis. ATMs are readily available in urban areas.

Transportation: Colombia has a well-developed transportation system, including domestic flights, buses, taxis, and ride-hailing services. In cities like Medellín, public transportation such as the metro and cable cars is efficient and widely used. It is recommended to use authorized taxis or hotel-arranged transportation.

Electricity: Colombia uses a 110-volt electrical system with Type A and Type B plugs (the same as the United States and Canada). A voltage converter is generally not necessary for travelers from North America, but a universal adapter is recommended if you carry multiple devices.

Air conditioning in some hotels may be regulated seasonally or controlled centrally and may not be as cool as what travelers from North America are accustomed to. Amenities such as hairdryers and irons may be available but are not guaranteed.

Time Zone: Colombia operates on Colombia Standard Time (COT), which is GMT -5. The country does not observe Daylight Saving Time.
During U.S. Eastern Standard Time, Colombia is in the same time zone. During U.S. Daylight Saving Time, Colombia is one hour behind Eastern Time.

Safety: Colombia is generally safe for tourists, especially in popular destinations such as Medellín, San Andrés, and Cartagena. As with any destination, travelers should remain alert in crowded areas, keep valuables secure, avoid displaying expensive items, and follow local advice provided by guides or hotel staff.

Tipping Tipping is customary in Colombia but not mandatory. In restaurants, a 10% service charge is often included in the bill; if not, a 10% tip is appreciated for good service. Tipping guides and drivers is optional and based on satisfaction with the service provided.
